Gesture-based Universal Cloud Input Device (GUCI)
In near future, our life will be proliferated with all kinds of screens. The usual ones are such as TVs, PCs, notebooks and automobiles; while the more novel ones are , for example, screens located at public places - screens displaying informations at shops and malls, train stations, libraries etc. Also, there will be screens in future household items such as fridge, microwave oven, air conditioner etc.
Now the trend seems to be expanding touch screens to all kinds of devices. But the problem of touch screens will soon become obvious - it will be tiring for use if the screen in vertical, and in order to be able to touch we need to be very close to the screens, which forbids too much people using it at the same time. Hygiene issues will also occur for public screens. So, it seems that touch screens are best left for personal use such as phones and pads.
Furthermore, another issue is how do all the screens recognize it’s you who is accessing them? By allowing the screens to connect to the Cloud might work, but the thing is you don’t want to get through all the troubles of logging in and off in front of each of the screens. This might also be solved if you let the screen to recognize your smartphone and thus your identity. But the phone is itself another screen and not primarily an input device, and on-screen keyboards are difficult for heavy use.
My idea of a GUCI solves all the aforementioned issues. A GUCI is a PORTABLE device that is primarily a gesture input device, one can simply type and move fingers in the thin air and it recognizes them. This can thus be used to control all the screens mentioned above. IT is superior to touchscreens as it avoids the above mentioned problems of touchscreens. It is also always connected to the net, and without logging in the screen recognizes the owner of the device.
Since it is connected to the Cloud, it allows the net to have a history of which screens you’ve visited, what you have viewed, how you had interacted with them, and even your track history in real space.
Chrome notebook is a Cloud processing device, people will also need a Cloud input device soon, and this is it!
